How will your page look in Google results?
Type a title and a description and watch the Google result build itself, on desktop and on a phone.
It measures in pixels rather than characters, which is the only measurement Google actually uses: a title full of capitals runs out of room long before one full of narrow letters. Everything happens in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Waterproof hiking jackets, tested in Scottish rain
We walked twenty jackets up the same wet hill so you do not have to. Honest notes on what kept the water out, what soaked through, and what each one costs.
0 of 580px · Room to spare. A few more useful words here would give a searcher more reason to click.
Google usually shows this as a breadcrumb rather than the raw address.
0 of 920px · Room to spare. A few more useful words here would give a searcher more reason to click.
This is an approximation, and an honest one: Google rewrites titles and descriptions whenever it thinks another wording answers the search better, and it renders differently on different screens. Treat the widths as a guide to what fits, not a promise of what will be shown.
Questions people ask
- How long should a page title be?
- About 580 pixels on desktop and 490 on mobile, which usually lands between 50 and 60 characters, but the character count is a rough proxy. Wide capitals eat the budget faster than narrow lowercase letters, which is why this tool measures the actual rendered width of your words.
- How long should a meta description be?
- Roughly 920 pixels on desktop, commonly 150 to 160 characters. Going longer is not penalised, it simply gets cut off with an ellipsis, so put the reason to click in the first sentence.
- Why is Google showing a different title to mine?
- Google rewrites titles when it thinks another wording matches the search better, often pulling from your H1 or from link text pointing at the page. A clear, specific title that matches what the page is about is the best way to be quoted as written.
- Does the meta description affect rankings?
- It is not a ranking factor, but it is the sales line under your title. Two pages that rank in the same place can earn very different numbers of clicks depending on what that line says, so it is worth writing rather than generating.
- What is a SERP?
- The search engine results page: the list of results you see after a search. A snippet is one result on that page, made of the breadcrumb, the title and the description.
