Quick verdict
Semrush is a full marketing suite: SEO, advertising, content, social and local research in one subscription, from $139 a month billed monthly. Sondavo does the search part only, in sterling, from £19. If you will use three or more of Semrush's toolkits, it is the better buy. If you only ever open the SEO ones, you are paying for a suite to use a corner of it.

What is Sondavo?
Sondavo reads one website and tells its owner, in plain English, where it stands. It connects to your Google Search Console account, so the figures for your own site are Google’s own rather than an estimate of them; it crawls your pages against eighteen named fault types and explains each one with the pages affected; it produces a ranked list of opportunities from your own data and measures what happens when you act on one; and from the £49 plan it asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity the questions you approve and records who they name.
Plans are £0, £19, £49 and £149 a month in sterling, billed monthly. Eight tools are published free with no account and no card, and they run on any address including one you do not own. There is no research index behind Sondavo, and it does not claim one: the features page lists only what is built today.
What you actually get
What a Sondavo report looks like
The free check on any address, with no account. This one is our own site.

The free check reads Google for any address you give it, with no account and no card. If it looks useful, the whole product for one site is £19 a month in sterling, billed monthly, with no annual commitment to weigh up first.
What is Semrush?
Semrush is the broadest product in this comparison. Alongside keyword research, rank tracking, backlinks and site auditing, it sells advertising research, social media management, content marketing tooling, local listings management and market and traffic analytics. Most of the price is breadth.
Published prices are in US dollars. Billed monthly the plans are SEO at $139, Starter at $199, Pro+ at $299 and Advanced at $549; on annual billing those fall to $117.33, $165.17, $248.17 and $455.67 a month. The SEO plan covers five sites and 500 keywords tracked daily. Additional users start at $45 a month each, which matters more than it looks: the entry plans include one seat.
There is a free plan giving one demo project and ten reports a day, and a seven day trial on the paid plans. AI visibility is sold both inside the main plans and as a standalone AI Visibility Toolkit at $99 a month billed annually per domain, with 25 custom prompts covering ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. Claude, DeepSeek and Grok appear on the enterprise tier.

The question is breadth, not features
Feature by feature Semrush covers more than Sondavo in almost every row that both products occupy, and a table that pretended otherwise would not survive ten minutes of checking. The useful question is not which has more, but whether you will use what you are buying.
Semrush is priced as a suite because it is one. The SEO plan at $139 a month billed monthly is reasonable value if you also run advertising research, plan content in it and manage local listings. If you open it once a week to look at rankings and a site audit, the same money is buying a great deal of software you never launch.
Sondavo is deliberately narrow. It reads your Search Console data, crawls your site, finds opportunities, watches competitors on Professional, and asks four AI assistants what they say about you. There is no advertising research, no social scheduling, no content marketing suite and no local listings management, and none of that is planned.
Search visibility and keyword data
Semrush holds a keyword and traffic index of comparable scale to Ahrefs, and it will tell you about any domain you type in. It tracks up to 500 keywords daily on the SEO plan and 5,000 on Advanced, across five and forty sites respectively.
Sondavo starts from the opposite end. Your own Search Console account is the primary source, so for your site the figures are Google's own rather than a model of them: every query that showed your site, the position you held and what moved. Up to sixteen months are imported and then kept beyond Google's own retention window, to 395 days on Professional and 730 on Agency.
For a site you do not own, Sondavo uses licensed third party data, labels it an estimate, and keeps it visibly separate from your own Google figures. Semrush's index is deeper and its research tooling is far more extensive. Where Sondavo differs is that it never mixes an estimate into a chart of your real numbers.
Technical SEO
Both crawl your site and report faults, and Semrush's audit is the larger of the two, with an AI readiness audit alongside it.
Sondavo names eighteen fault types and writes each one out for a non specialist: what it is, why it matters, which of your pages have it and what to do next, with the affected pages sorted by the clicks they currently earn. The page by page ledger puts each surveyed page beside its Search Console clicks so the fix worth doing first is the top row rather than a judgement call.
Sondavo also publishes eight technical checks as free tools that need no account and run on any address. Semrush has some free standalone tools, but its site audit needs a project inside an account.
AI visibility
Semrush sells AI visibility two ways: bundled into the main plans, where the Starter plan tracks 50 prompts daily, and as a standalone AI Visibility Toolkit at $99 a month billed annually per domain with 25 custom prompts. Coverage on the toolkit is ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity, with Claude, DeepSeek and Grok on the enterprise tier. Sentiment and share of voice are included.
Sondavo includes AI monitoring from Professional at £49 a month: one monitored site, five approved questions, four assistants, checked weekly, with extra sites at £19 a month and extra five question packs at £15. On prompt volume Semrush gives considerably more at a broadly similar price, and on the base toolkit it covers Google AI, which Sondavo does not.
Where Sondavo differs is what it keeps. Each answer is stored verbatim with its date, the businesses named and the pages cited, so you read the assistant's actual words rather than a score computed from them. Semrush does not publish whether it retains full answer text, so we have not marked that either way.
Sondavo data
Four assistants, four different habits
Perplexity and Gemini cited around twenty sources per answer. Claude linked a source in about half its answers and named a business in far fewer.
| Assistant | Answers | With links | Links each | Businesses named |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Perplexity | 60 | 100% | 19.8 | 1.2 |
| Gemini | 60 | 100% | 18.6 | 1.2 |
| ChatGPT | 62 | 98% | 8.2 | 1.7 |
| Claude | 57 | 53% | 3.7 | 0.4 |
The practical consequence: an assistant that rarely links a source is one your pages cannot easily earn a click from, however often it names you. Mentions and citations are different things and a tool that reports only one of them is telling you half the story.

Pricing, and the currency problem
These two products cannot be compared on price without saying what is being compared. Semrush publishes in US dollars and shows annual billing by default; Sondavo publishes in sterling and bills monthly with no annual commitment. Converting one into the other would produce a number that is wrong the following week, so we have not.
What can be said plainly: Semrush's cheapest paid plan is $139 a month billed monthly, or $117.33 a month if you commit for a year. Sondavo's cheapest paid plan is £19 a month, and its most expensive published plan, Agency with fifty sites and fifteen seats, is £149 a month.
Seats are the other thing worth checking before you compare headline prices. Semrush's entry plans include one user and additional users start at $45 a month. Sondavo Professional at £49 includes three and Agency at £149 includes fifteen. For a small team that difference can be larger than the difference in the plan price.
Who each one is actually for
Semrush suits a marketing team. Somebody whose job includes search, someone else running paid, a content plan that needs research behind it, and a manager who wants it all in one invoice. It rewards being learned properly and it is well documented.
Sondavo suits the person who owns one website and needs to know why it is not being found. That is often the business owner rather than a marketer, which is why the product explains rather than labels, and why eight of its checks are free and need no account.
Agencies sit across both. Semrush for research and for the breadth of client work; Sondavo for a per client reading of Search Console data, a crawl and AI answers, with a white labelled report on the Agency plan at £149 a month for fifty sites.
Where Semrush beats Sondavo
Every comparison on this site carries this section. If we could not fill it honestly, the comparison would not be worth publishing.
01Breadth nothing here matchesAdvertising research, social, content marketing, local listings and market analytics. If you need any of those, Sondavo does not have them and will not.
02A far larger research indexKeyword, traffic and backlink data across any domain you type in. Sondavo's data on sites you do not own is licensed, labelled and shallower.
03More AI prompts for the money25 custom prompts on the standalone toolkit at $99 a month, and 50 daily prompts on the Starter plan, against Sondavo's five questions per monitored site. On volume this is not close.
04Rank tracking at volume500 keywords tracked daily at the entry plan and 5,000 at Advanced, across up to forty sites. Sondavo reports the searches Google says you appeared for rather than tracking a chosen keyword list at that scale.
05Maturity and documentationSemrush has been shipping since 2008, with a large knowledge base, certification courses and an established agency ecosystem. Sondavo is new, and a new product is a real risk to weigh.
Where Sondavo has the advantage
01Priced in sterling, billed monthlyNo exchange rate, no annual commitment, no seat maths before you know whether the product suits you. £19 a month for one site, £49 for the full instrument including AI monitoring.
02Seats included rather than addedThree people on Professional at £49 and fifteen on Agency at £149. Semrush's entry plans include one seat with additional users from $45 a month.
03Usable before you sign upEight tools that ask for nothing at all and run on any address. Semrush's free plan needs an account and caps you at ten reports a day.
04One screen, not forty toolkitsSemrush's breadth is its strength and also its learning curve. Sondavo shows a short ordered list of what to do next on the site you asked about, which is the whole product rather than one report inside it.
05Estimates are never mixed into your own dataThird party ranking data is labelled and kept visually separate from Search Console figures throughout the product, so you always know which numbers are Google's and which are an approximation.
Which should you choose?
Find the line that describes you. Several of them point at Semrush.
You run paid media, social or content programmes alongside SEO
Semrush. One subscription covering all of it is worth more than a cheaper tool that covers a quarter of it.
You need to research markets and domains you have no access to
Semrush. The index is the product, and Sondavo does not have one at that scale.
You have one site and no marketing team
Sondavo. £19 a month, your own Google data, and a list of what to fix written for somebody who is not an SEO.
You want more than a handful of AI prompts tracked
Semrush. 25 prompts on the standalone toolkit against Sondavo's five per site is a real difference.
Three or four colleagues need access on a small budget
Sondavo Professional at £49 includes three seats. Compare that with the entry Semrush plan plus $45 a month per extra user.
You are an agency reporting to clients every month
Likely both. Semrush for research breadth, Sondavo for the per client reading and white labelled report on the £149 Agency plan.
Answer it on your own site first
Before paying anyone, including us: the free check reads Google for any address you give it, and the eight free tools run without an account. Neither asks for a card.
Common questions
- Is Sondavo a Semrush alternative?
- For the SEO part, yes. For the rest of Semrush, no. Semrush also covers advertising research, social, content marketing and local listings, none of which Sondavo does or plans to. If you use those, replacing Semrush with Sondavo would leave real gaps.
- How much cheaper is Sondavo than Semrush?
- Sondavo's cheapest paid plan is £19 a month and its full plan is £49. Semrush's cheapest is $139 a month billed monthly, or $117.33 on annual billing. The currencies differ, so we quote both as published rather than converting one into the other.
- Does Semrush track AI visibility?
- Yes. It is included in the main plans, with 50 prompts tracked daily on Starter, and sold separately as the AI Visibility Toolkit at $99 a month billed annually per domain with 25 custom prompts across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity.
- Does Semrush have a free plan?
- Yes: one demo project and ten reports a day across the main tools, with no card required. Paid plans also carry a seven day trial.
- Which is better for a small business?
- Usually Sondavo, on two grounds: the price and the writing. It costs a fraction of a Semrush subscription and explains findings for somebody who does not do SEO for a living. Semrush is better if the business already runs paid media and content programmes that need research behind them.
- Can Sondavo import my Semrush data?
- No. Sondavo reads Google Search Console directly, so your history comes from Google rather than from another tool. There is no Semrush import and none is planned.

Search breadth against AI reach
The two axes that separate these products, both counted from published facts rather than judged. Sondavo and Semrush land on exactly the same point, which is the useful part: on raw capability they are close, and what separates them is price, currency and everything one of them does outside search.
